"Never go to art school. Never go to New York. Never rent a loft. Dump your font folder. Forget symmetry and colour coordination. Stop taking text from editorial you don't read and packaging it in eye catching ways. Walk away from your computer. Then take off, go to India, rural China, Rio, Caracas, and Belize. Mingle with the filthy rich and the dirt poor. Dig up all the roots of terror. Make hunger, disease, cruelty, lust, greed, self preservation and genocide your roommates. Then when your run out of money and can't take it anymore, fly back home. Look in the mirror. Face your fears, your weaknesses, strengths, your imminent demise. Then when all of this begins to gel into a master narrative in front of your eyes,go get a job." - Kalle Lasn.

We grow up being told to think and follow certain ways. Go to work, follow fashion, act normal. What happens when one chooses to think differently? What happens when one begins to think for themselves? One word: influence.

Having the power to influence is having the power to cause permanent change. As one begins to think for themselves, they must understand how their thoughts and works will affect themselves and those around them. With great power comes great responsibility.

As one decides to go against the grain by not letting themselves be influenced by popular media or ideas that become fads, a new person is created. People who think for themselves are the social norms' biggest threat. They cause these social norms to die and can possibly lead to a revolution of true thinkers.

However, one must be aware of one thing: not all thoughts will influence, but as they choose to think for themselves, there will always be at least one thought that can become an incredible influence to people all around the world. Always.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world." Influence.

Care and Help

Why are we not spending more of our time helping one another? We go through our lives worrying about ourselves when in reality the things we worry about are usually fairly minuscule. If we begin to not only help ourselves but also help others, our problems will seem to become less and less of a worry.

The world would truly be much better of a place if we were to help ourselves and one other person. If everyone were to do this the world would be more at peace. Kindness would spread throughout the world, and love would conquer the negativity that has been going on
Would you like to make a difference in this world? The secret behind to making a difference in this world happens to be easily summed up in two words: Care and help.
Care about something that is going on. Whether it be something minor like the recent epidemic causing people to not open doors for others or something major like the on-going wars in central Africa.
After you have discovered something you truly care about, find out how to help and then take action.
There's a difference between doing something and thinking about doing something. Good intentions followed by idle actions causes change to never happen. On the contrary, good intentions followed by diligent actions causes not only change, but also influence.

Care and help. Life is so great if we apply these two words to it.

Love is a powerful thing. It negates the negative feelings of life. It negates pride, hate, anger, sadness, and envy.  It helps one notice the good things in life instead of the bad things.

Yes, life is incredibly hard. It has a lot of terrible things. Death. Heartbreak. Betrayal. Hate.
However, with these terrible things in life brings the great things. Life. Happiness. Friendship. Love.

The great thing about love is that we can constantly give it. We can constantly use it. We can always be living it.
We never run out.

If we have this amount of love to give and to receive, then why are we not taking advantage of this in our lives?

Finding a passion is an important key to having a happy life. Passions cause people to wake up in the morning and get out of bed. They cause people to get through the hardest times in their life so they can get to the best times in their life. They cause people to live for something.

Once you find your passion, the next step is to learn about your passion. Learn everything you can possibly know. Thirst for knowledge. There's an infinite amount of things you can learn. As you study you find more things you find interesting and (more importantly) you find more passions. You find more things to live for.

Find a passion, love your passion, live your passion, and all will be well.

Talker's Block

"No one ever gets talker's block. No one wakes up in the morning, discovers he has nothing to say and sits quietly, for days or weeks, until the muse hits, until the moment is right, until all the craziness in his life has died down.

Why then, is writer's block endemic?
The reason we don't get talker's block is that we're in the habit of talking without a lot of concern for whether or not our inane blather will come back to haunt us. Talk is cheap. Talk is ephemeral. Talk can be easily denied.
We talk poorly and then, eventually (or sometimes), we talk smart. We get better at talking precisely because we talk. We see what works and what doesn't, and if we're insightful, do more of what works. How can one get talker's block after all this practice?
Writer's block isn't hard to cure.
Just write poorly. Continue to write poorly, in public, until you can write better.
I believe that everyone should write in public. Get a blog. Or use Squidoo or Tumblr or a microblogging site. Use an alias if you like. Turn off comments, certainly--you don't need more criticism, you need more writing.
Do it every day. Every single day. Not a diary, not fiction, but analysis. Clear, crisp, honest writing about what you see in the world. Or want to see. Or teach (in writing). Tell us how to do something.
If you know you have to write something every single day, even a paragraph, you will improve your writing. If you're concerned with quality, of course, then not writing is not a problem, because zero is perfect and without defects. Shipping nothing is safe.
The second best thing to zero is something better than bad. So if you know you have write tomorrow, your brain will start working on something better than bad. And then you'll inevitably redefine bad and tomorrow will be better than that. And on and on.
Write like you talk. Often."
-Seth Godin

I'm going to try to abide to this. I really love this.

Thirst for knowledge, progress in life, and in the end there will be no regrets.

If we forget about ourselves completely and serve the Lord, great blessings will be in store. Powerful blessings. Blessings that will endure and will never be forgotten. And at the end of our lives we will meet with our Savior and Father and be thanked by Them for our minuscule services we've done compared to the ultimate services they have done for us.
